    Three bedroom apartment in Petrzalka

Design of a minimalist apartment located in the outskirts of Bratislava.

Design

We were tasked with designing and completing a project for a family of four with small children, so that they would feel comfortable whilst suiting their needs.

The once-unfurnished flat is now brimming with unique and unexpected solutions full of masterfully elaborate minutiae, allowing not only for above-average comfort in the form of the quality materials used, but also for a large amount of storage space thanks to the custom-made furniture, with absolutely zero compromise needed when it came to the aesthetics.

The functional elements, be they the kitchen sink or wardrobe and cupboard handles, were finely incorporated into the design, so that they would not interfere the overall looks by disrupting the space.

Living room and kitchen

„Good design is obvious. Great design is transparent.“

The joint living, kitchen and dining areas might seem simple at first glance. Do not be fooled though, for an abundance of space and a plethora of appliances (ranging from the fridge, through the kitchen sink all the way to the washing machine and tumble dryer) hide behind the smooth gentle surfaces and shapes.

On the other side of the kitchen island separating the kitchen from the living room and the dining area, there is, in addition to the dining table, a custom-made sofa with a coffee table, opposite of which we can find a low storage credenza running along the full length of the wall.

Materials

The longevity of the furniture is guaranteed by using high-quality materials, such as oak ply with oily finish and solid whitened oak for the kitchen worktops. We paid special attention to the space itself when picking the colours, which allowed us to fine-tune the mood in each room individually.

Furniture

Dining table and chairs are made of coffee oak. The rest of the furniture is made of white sprayed MDF.

Disposition

Our design respects the present layout. We only made some minor adjustments, such as mounting a spacious shower instead of a bathtub and implementing a wall mounted shower tap.

A rather short entrance-hall organically opens up into the living room and kitchen on the right side, whereas the bedroom and walk-in closet can be found towards our left.

Bedroom

The bedroom is full of light and bright shades. Big white wardrobes with sliding doors line the entire wall opposite the king sized bed with grey accents in the master bedroom. Tasteful lamps adorn the nightstands placed at each side of the bed and a feeling of privacy is retained thanks to the blackout curtains.

Furniture

We used a combination of custom-made and handpicked designer pieces to furnish the apartment. The aforementioned bedroom lamps, which are a bold mix of brass and concrete designed by Jonas Wagell, go well with the custom-made bed and wardrobes. Two designer lights made by Ferm hang above the special-sized solid oak dining table, which, same as the chairs around it and the coffee table in front of the custom-made sofa, were made by the Slovak Javorina. Several Scandinavian-style accessories by Wemal enhance the modern feel of the flat with their unique look.

Hallway and walk-in closet

Using a mirror with acute-angled LED lighting in the hallway allowed us to create a unique 3D effect that pulls the beholder in. Another mirror can be found in the closet, which meets the size and light expectations thanks to the large amount of storage space and light present there.

Details

The flat is brimming with an astounding amount of details, whose beauty dwells in a combination of their raw practicality and sublime inconspicuousness. We subjected the handles in the whole flat to the space itself, so that they would not disrupt it in any way. Stellar examples of such an approach include the wardrobes in the bedroom and the kitchen island, whose milled-in handles open the doors to storage space on both sides. Under the TV and bookshelves we can also observe a cupboard with a mirror minibar with its own lighting system and bevelled edges.

Bathroom

In accordance with the owner’s tastes, we were working with a mosaic style. Its black and white colour palette are, in combination with a brown cupboard, literally reflected in the stainless steel wall finish, which in turn complements the contrast we achieved by using two types of grout.

Project and realization

We supplied the client with the design and realization with immediate entry, interior study, visualisation in VR and project documentation including the custom furniture blueprints and construction part. The planning took 2 months and after another 3 months we presented our client with a comfortable interior of 87m2 fit for relaxing and living.
